HANGING AROUND TOWN
My friend, Petra and I had a photographic project, where we would alternately choose a topic to photograph and when we were finished, we made a photographic book and exchanged them. The project was great fun and it was interesting to see how differently we interpreted the topic.
One week, I chose wind as the topic to photograph. As I was going around taking my photos, I realized there was an opportunity for another book. I called the book, Hanging Around Town and it involves a silk scarf.
I used an outdated map of the City of Ottawa for the covers. I specifically used the area covering the Byward Market, since the photos were taken in this area.

Miss Silky Scarf waiting for the bus.
Obeying the sign, she moved in the right direction.
She didn't linger long, not wanting to get ticketed for stopping in a no stopping zone.
Her friend, the wind, helped her along.
She stopped to read the signs for parking.
She checked out the gas meter at one of the shops.
The French Bakery was one of her favourite stops.
Checking the times at another bus stop.

This mural was on the next building.
Miss Silky Scarf stopped to catch her breath, while he friend, the wind took a break.
Checking out the consultants office.
Looking at new art works at the gallery.
A little break, just hanging around.
Visiting friends.
Checking out the fire department's equipment.
She stopped to feel the foliage.
Always curious, she had to see what was behind the closed doors.
It was an empty lane where the sun hadn't reached the snow yet.
The lovely red fence was an opportunity for a little respite from all the hanging around she was doing.
Checking out a new mode of transportation.
Inspecting the emergency equipment.
Trying out an antique chair.
More safety equipment to look at.
Ah, delicious Canadian wine.
She did a turn with Mr. Lapointe, the local one man band.
She hung out with Mr. Flett, the clown, while he blew up his balloons.
Hanging with the butterflies.
Another bus stop.
Waiting for the bus.
Observing the signs.
Taking a swing on a gate.
Checking out the public art installation in the market.
For emergencies only.
She chatted with Mr. Liu, an agriculture specialist from Bejing, China.
Miss Silky Scarf had a full day hanging around town, looking at the sights and talking to people she met along the way. She arrived safely at home, took a warm shower and slept like a silk nightgown.
