SYMBIOSIS

 


Symbiosis was created in response to a call.  It was inspired by the symbiotic relationship between the monarch butterfly and milkweed plant.  These fragile looking butterflies migrate thousands of miles between Mexico  and Canada.  One of their main sources of nutrition is the milkweed plant.  This book is made of laminated milkweed seeds and then embroidered to replicate the flying seeds.

Window to the Community   It has been an interesting year.  One of forced withdrawal from society, to keep safe; one of a time to reflect on life as we knew it; and one of a time to create within one's private dome of creativity without interruptions.   AUTHORS: COFFEE WITH HEMINGWAY I had this little book kicking around for the longest time.  I used it, for a while, as a teaching tool. ALL ABOARD FOR WONDER AND DR. FRANKENSTEIN'S COLLECTION OF SPARE PARTS

Wall Mural  WONDER  It all started when I was playing with lettering.  Valentine's day was coming up and I decided to try my hand at some illuminated letters.  I water coloured the background.   The left-hand side looked like a waterfall, down which I tumbled some hearts.  The letters are painted in watercolour and acrylic paints.  and then... I continued to water colour more paper and Wonder appeared  a piece of decorative paper under a piece of water coloured paper with illuminated letters painted in gold... and then.... photos of murals on the pylons of an underpass.  A couple of years ago I was in Toronto and I was looking for the Distillery District.  I got off the bus too soon and wandered around for awhile and found these amazing murals.  I think they were part of the decorations for the Pan Am games.   and then....I was bored one day and decided to turn...

SUMINAGASHI SATURDAY

I was sitting around twiddling my thumbs and spinning my tires,  I was sipping hot chocolate and revvvvvving my engine;  whistling to music on the radio and thinking about what I wanted to do,  I looked out through the looking glass and decided to do some marbling.  It became a Suminagashi Saturday. I decided to work in blue on Japanese paper.  I'm quite happy with the results.   NEW MATERIALS INTO NEW JOURNALS   In 2016 I wrote a list of the different materials I wanted to experiment with for book covers. One was wool felt and the other was acrylic.  I finally found a good source for the wool felt and  I recently located the acrylic at the local art store.  Prior to finding my wool felt source, I experimented with a placemat made from synthetic felt.  I created my first two journals out of it and decided wool felt was the next step.   Synthetic Felt Jour...
