ASEMIC WRITING ART

I recently learned about Asemic Writing Art and realized that I had done some of it in the past without knowing it had a name.

Asemic writing is a wordless open semantic form of writing.  It has no meaning and no specific context.  The meaning or interpretation of such a piece of art is left solely up to the reader or viewer.  Asemic writing art is a hybrid art form that fuses text and image into unity and then sets it free to arbitrary subjective interpretations.  (Wikipedia)

And so I put my hand to the task after doing some research and viewing the beautiful pieces of asemic writing art that have been created by artists.

Ginkgo Leaves

I turned these pieces into an artist's book.  I hand drew the ginkgo leaves, coloured them with water colours and ink and then proceeded with the asemic writing.

These pieces are abstract in nature and I used heirogliphic symbols and alchemy symbols to complement other asemic writing. The images are hand drawn and coloured with water colours and ink.

CHECK AND BALANCE

This set of asemic writings is a combination of collage, painting and writing.

The Phone Call

The Works

Imagine

Discovery

Strength

Melody

Stitches

Joy

Tranquility

The Race

Borrowed Work

For this set of asemic writing art I chose pieces of art I previously created for artist books and mail art. I used water colours, ink and graphite for the images.

Silence is Golden

Boldy Bodacious

Continental

Curiosity

Beastly

Chatter

Legendary Magic

Ritz with a K (this is a breakdown of my last name)

In The Palm Of My Hand

Life, Death, Life

Imaginary Friend

Words

Now that I have tried out a number of things, looked at a lot of asemic writing art, it's time to sit back and contemplate what I want to do next with this art form. The best way for me to do that is while I'm binding these pieces into some books.
