UNDER MILK WOOD

Image
Under Milk Wood, by Dylan Thomas, started out as a radio drama in 1954. Later it was accepted for the stage.  An omniscient narrator invites the audience/reader to listen to the dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of the fictional small Welsh fishing village.   This artist's book lists the different characters of Milk Wood and I included some images that related to the character.  I also included a poem and excerpt from the Gwalia Gazette.  The hand drawn images are painted with water colours and the text is handwritten. I created this book in 2020.  Front Cover  Title Page  Back Cover

SYMBIOSIS

Image
Symbiosis was created in response to a call.  It was inspired by the symbiotic relationship between the monarch butterfly and milkweed plant.  These fragile looking butterflies migrate thousands of miles between Mexico  and Canada.  One of their main sources of nutrition is the milkweed plant.   This book is made of laminated milkweed seeds and then embroidered to replicate the flying seeds. Protective cover: chyogami, book cloth and stained glass.  Inside of the protective cover and the book cover.  Etched front cover: replicating flying milk weed seeds.  Open pages of the book.  Front cover of the book. Etched back cover and last page.

The January 1 polar dip in Ottawa.  These fellows walked on water before dropping into the icy water.  This little ...
